The Unveiling

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Its a beautiful morning once again on Rangeley Lake. The sun is just coming up over the mountains and the sky is a beautiful color. Today is a busy day at 2485 Main, the plastic will come off the front of the building at 3:00. All the men are working hard to get it ready for all to see. Its been fun watching people trying to get peeks in at what is happening. But that will only be for a moment as the plastic will go up inside my windows to keep it a secret as long as possible. Everything is coming together very fast now, there is so much detail starting from scratch. Even my husband said to me last night “did you remember to get napkins?” of course I did. I am sure there will be a few things that gets over looked, but this is like a glass of wine and will only improve with age.

Wine Tasting and Summer Heat

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

I drove up yesterday from spending the weekend on Nantucket for a wine tasting. Beautiful weather, great friends and more wine than you could imagine and I did not taste one. I walked into this wine tasting and all I did was drink St. Germain cocktails and buy dark chocolate for the Corner Side.
So then I take the long drive back up to Maine and stop for our wine tasting with my staff at our wine distributor. That was nice and easy compared with the claustrophobic amount of people at the Nantucket wine tasting. Today is beautifully hot, 88 and I have been potting my flowers and planting the window boxes for the wine bar. And as I sit for a moment to write this my poor pugga wugga sits at my feet. Moxie has an ulcer on her eye that won’t heal so It has been stitched shut like a bandaid to help it heal. She has to wear a halo to stop her from scratching it and spends a lot of time bumping into things. Poor Poor thing.
But back to the Corner Side, I went there today and It is looking spectacular. enough said…

The Calm before the Storm

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Its a beautiful morning on the lake, the trillium are blooming in my garden, and the humming birds are back in full force. I am always afraid I will get one stuck in my head one day as the buzz by my head at lightning speeds.
On Monday the staff meet with the wine company to learn about the wines we will be serving and how to handle the wine glasses so we don’t have a ton of breakage. On memorial day weekend we will unveil the front of the building for the beginning of a fabulous summer. Then shortly after that The Corner Side will open for business. In the mean time, the espresso maker is on my counter, the panini grill is in my bedroom, and the garage is full of dishes, lights and tons of other things for the bar. My other garage is full of bar stools, tables and chairs. I can’t wait to open so I can have my space back. I am running out of space. But here I sit, the lake like glass and very inviting if not for the cold I would be in it, maybe I should kayak today.
